I wish to reach out with an update on what is going on within CBOA as the COVID-19 pandemic continues and we are in the stay-at-home situation, schools shutdown and no athletic competition since early March. Officiating is a profession that can't be facilitated with remote participation. With the stay at home, no gathering of groups and our athletic teams unable to play, officials are directly impacted.
The CBOA leadership (Executive Board) will continue to monitor the developments and adjust the business of the organization accordingly. Plans are in place to continue operations as usual via electronic mail as well as virtual meeting(s). Our planning and responses are grounded in recommendations from the U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO) and State and local government.
Last Sunday, April 26, the CBOA Executive Council (Presidents of all CBOA Units) met via online GoToMeeting for its bi-annual spring business meeting. During that meeting, EB elections were held, 2020-21 budget approved, two units were approved into CBOA and status on several general business items were reported. The EB will continue to monitor the situation with athletic teams and plans for their 2020-21 season as they are announced.
At the EC meeting, we expressed CBOA plans for proceeding with the 2020-21 training preparation and asked units to start registration process to help get the most accurate membership numbers as possible. Changes with planning will be made when necessary to account for any sport changes.
In order to help meet the changing demands for training officials, CBOA and our training partner NASO wish for you to take a survey that NASO will send you this Friday May 1, 2020. Please take the time to take the survey. Results will be tabulated and used to help with CBOA forward planning of its training material. We want to hear from you.
Thank you in advance for your time, stay safe, healthy and stay the course. We are going to get there together.
