PRESIDENTS WELCOME MESSAGE
Dear Fellow Officials:
On behalf of the Board of Directors and myself, I would like to welcome all returning and new officials to the 2008-2009 basketball season. As we enter our fifty-ninth season here at Foothill-Citrus, I am excited about writing a new chapter in our officiating history. What I saw last season was very encouraging in terms of our development and progress as a whole. But, we still have a lot of work to do. We implemented a new instructional system last year, which I feel was a resounding success, but because members of that staff are no longer available to us, we had to abandon that program for this year. That is not to say that we will be found lacking; on the contrary… we have brought back Randy Homer as our Instructional Chair, who was one of the pioneers of our innovative instruction from the years 1999-2005. I trust we are in very capable hands again!
As always, our instruction can only provide you the foundation from which to grow into a topnotch official, the rest is incumbent on each individual to build upon that foundation. That is why it is important for each official to take the responsibility of working to improve their skills during the season, as well as, in the off-season. We must understand that the players and coaches work in the off-season to improve; we owe it to them to do the same. That being said, we will continue with the motto; “Better than we were, but not as good as we can be.” Moving in the right direction… but there’s still room for improvement.
This being the final year as your President, I hope that I will be remembered as a leader who lead by example and tried to do what was fair and just for our membership. I also hope that I will leave this office a little better in some way, than when I took over.
In closing, please use this Membership Handbook for any information you may need regarding the operation and functions of the Foothill-Citrus Association. Most of your questions and concerns are covered in our Membership Handbook. If not, please feel free to contact myself or any member of your Board of Directors to assist in any way that we can.
